Read the following passage and choose the best answer.

Alice lived in a remote village in the North of England. She lived with her grandmother. They were very poor.

One day, Alice’s grandmother asked her to buy some rice. “This is the last of our money.”, her grandmother said, “And we have no more rice.”

On her way, Alice met an old man. He was dressed in rags. “Where are you going?”, he asked.

“I’m going to the market to buy some rice.”, she said.

“Help a poor old man. Buy my bamboo basket instead.”

Alice felt sorry for him. So she gave him her money and took the basket. Then she went home.

“Did you buy any rice?”, her grandmother asked.

“No.”, Alice said. “I bought this.” She showed her grandmother the basket.

“But we have nothing to eat.”, said her grandmother. And she began to cry. Then a strange thing happened. The basket filled with rice. And each day after that, the basket filled with rice again. Alice and her grandmother were never hungry any more.
