The Internet is the world’s largest computer network with over 100 million users worldwide and this number is doubling from year to year. The Internet is like an international highway of information. Now, you can sit at your computer, choose a route and arrive at your destination -that is, the information you need. Today, from your computer, you can access a library in one country, talk to an expert on a certain topic in a second country and send your own information to someone doing research in a third. So, we don’t know what will be next in the not-too-distant future.

The Internet was born when scientists attempted to connect the American Defence Network to other satellite networks in order to exchange information. Soon, scientific and educational institutions as well as research departments became interested in linking up, and, before long, the Internet had expanded into an international information and communication network.  

The Internet now reaches all the countries in the world. You can be connected to the Internet directly through your own computer or you can hook up to an access system which allows you to use some of the Internet’s services.

To tell the truth, there are problems with modern technology like the Internet. For example, copyright laws and other media regulations haven’t managed to come to grips with the Internet yet. Unfortunately, some unscrupulous people have already recognized the commercial potential of the Internet. They have used it to sell stolen goods illegally and even pornorgraphy, which would obviously make the Internet unsuitable for use in schools. Both government and computer experts are concerned about the misuse of such a system and must do their best to prevent it. Nobody actually owns the Internet, nobody runs it and no one has the power to switch it off. Thus, the nature of the Internet will be shaped by the culture and morality of the people who use it.

The Owners of the "News”

The role of the media is essentially defined by the manipulation of information-oriented towards the control of "public opinion", but their goals are not social as described in the mythology of "journalistic objectivity".

The famous ethical flags of journalism: fairness, objectivity and freedom of expression, are nothing more than myths concealing the billionaire media business that moves daily market information on a global scale. The process of manufacturing and distributing information is not motivated by the need to "inform" but by the capitalist need to sell news. To do this, the media, like any capitalist company, generates massive consumer needs in society and plots information strategies aimed at encouraging business growth, positioning themselves in order to successfully compete in the market.

First, information is a commodity to produce economic returns like any other commercial product offered in the capitalist market. In functional terms (and beyond the legend that is produced around it) the newspaper businesses are not guided by social purposes but for the pursuit of economic gain. Secondly, in the light of the strategic nature of the communication function to develop from the point of view of preservation of the "governance", system the media is a key tool for the control and manipulation of the economic, political and social processes.

In the news business, like any business venture, the media only works for those who can pay for their "informative" services. This is why a relationship of mutual survival between the media, governments and major economic groups exists. These groups decide what is news and what is not and use this strategy to control political, economic and social trends.

Instagram was founded by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger in October 2010. Systrom and Krieger initially wanted to create an application for mobile photography called Burbn, but upon developing their idea further, they found that it was too similar to the existing search-result app called Foursquare. They tweaked their original idea until they came up with a photo-sharing app. The name “Instagram” is a combination of “instant camera” and “telegram.”

From the outset, Instagram proved extremely popular. Only two months after its launch, it achieved a million users and reached ten million users in its first year. The simple idea of sharing photos in a social media setting appealed to a wide variety of phone users. As time went on, Systrom and Krieger began making a series of technology-related improvements to the app —making it compatible with Android and Windows phones, for example - as well as improving the user experience. In January 2011, it added hashtags, offering users the ability to find posts and people related to common interests. As Instagram grew into one of the most popular apps in the world, tech titans took notice. In 2012, Facebook purchased Instagram for one billion dollars.

In November 2012, Instagram launched web versions of user profiles, giving desktop users the ability to access Instagram profiles. However, the website profile launch retained limited functionality and lacked a search bar; the feature was redesigned in 2015. Instagram also began allowing the upload of non-square photos to the app in August 2015, a notable shift from the look and feel of the app since its inception. Rather than cropping down larger photos to a neat square, users could upload any photo of any dimension to share with friends and followers.

In March 2016, Instagram changed the nature of its news feed, the place where users scroll through newly-posted photos from those they follow, from chronological to algorithmic. “Algorithmic” means that Instagram uses computer algorithms and artificial intelligence to make “decisions” on what its data predicts you’ll like best. While this decision was met with backlash at first, it was made in order to prevent users from missing important posts from friends and family that might have gone unnoticed with a standard chronological timeline approach. Later in 2016, the app underwent major aesthetic changes; the app itself revamped to a black-and-white theme, while the app icon changed to a whimsical rainbow-colored design.

Today, Instagram boasts 800 million users. Every day, 55 million photos are uploaded and 1.2 billion likes are recorded.

There are different types of mass media and some work better than others in different situations. They could be as advanced as digital billboards, or as simple as public loudspeakers.

Digital billboards

Unlike a traditional billboard which can only show one printed image, a digital billboard can change between different messages. Digital billboards are also considered more attractive than traditional ones, and people are more likely to notice them. Moreover, they can also be updated in real time.

Nowadays, digital billboards are common in many big cities around the world. It is hard to imagine places like Times Square in New York, Piccadilly Circus in London, or Shibuya in Tokyo without bright light adverts. Public loudspeakers

In the past, public loudspeakers were used during the war to warn people of air attacks. Nowadays, they are still used in parts of Japan, the Philippines, and the US to alert people to natural disasters such as storms, earthquakes, and tornadoes. In Viet Nam, they are used to communicate important public announcements to residents. However, the noise from a city-wide loudspeaker system can be a problem to some people.

It’s all a hoax

Although technology has created an increase in hoax images, the first fake photo dates back to the 1830s. Some years later, a book claimed to show the surface of the moon - even though this wasn't actually photographed. An obsession with the spirit world led to a series of photos showing ghosts and fairies, and 1960s interest in space travel produced numerous images of alien life. Nowadays, there is plenty of online evidence of our addiction to this visual trickery - there seems to be an endless demand for amusing images of monster cats, mutant squids, and friends posing with Hollywood stars. It can be almost impossible to tell the difference between what's real and what's fake.

What makes vloggers so popular? Successful vloggers share some common characteristics. They are outgoing, quick-witted and spontaneous in front of 10 their webcams. There is also a lot of interaction with the audience and feedback on their videos. This means vloggers can adapt the content of their videos to keep their viewers happy. It is material that is made by young people for young people without any intrusion from media corporations. What is more, thanks to the accessibility of modern technology, the vlogs can be watched anywhere at any time. All these ingredients have created a two-way relationship between vloggers and their subscribers, based on shared interests and trust that cannot be found between the providers and users of other media.

However, it appears that those shared interests and that trust might become negatively affected by money. Some of the big-name vloggers can earn 25 up to £20,000 for displaying an advertisement on their channel. They also earn a lot for mentioning or reviewing a product in a vlog. About 1,000 vloggers around the world earn at least £100,000 a year from their YouTube income. And profits are sometimes 30 earned at the expense of honesty.

So, will vlogs go the way of many TV programmes and films? Not according to the vloggers, who emphasise their creative independence over making money. However, Zoella, one of the few vloggers in the public eye in Britain, caused a scandal after publishing a book and claiming that it had always been her dream to write a novel. Shortly later, she had to admit that she had not written it alone and her name was justbeing used to sell it. Many experts saw it as a sign that vlogging had lost its innocence and that large media corporations were taking control.

Pierre de Fermat was born on August 17 in 1601 in Beaumont-de-Lomagne, France. He was a famous French mathematician who is often called the founder of the modern theory of numbers. The most interesting story about Fermat should be his last theorem, which is also known as Fermat's great theorem. It is a statement that there are no natural numbers x, y, z such that x + y = z", in which n is a natural number greater than 2. In 1636, Fermat, the distinguished mathematician, wrote in his copy of the Arithmetica that he had discovered a truly proof of this theorem, but the margin of the book was too small for him to write it down. 3_____ No one could prove or disprove Fermat's last theorem. Not until 1993 could the English mathematician Andrew Wiles devise a proof of this theorem. 4_____ Andrew Wiles had been interested in Fermat's last theorem since the age of ten. Most of the cases involve people taking selfies while posing with animals, or falling from high places.

Despite the risks, social media is full of pictures featuring near misses that could have been fatal under other circumstances. Under the caption 'Most dangerous selfie ever', a woman posing at a stadium can be seen narrowly avoiding being hit in the head by a baseball approaching her. 3 _______ What is even more worrying, however, is that the woman herself dares others to better the shot, seemingly overlooking the fact that by doing so, she is endangering the lives of her 'friends' as well.

In response to the increasing threat posed by the selfie, the authorities have started to take action. Hey, everyone! This week, we learned about different forms of media, and that got me thinking about how my family uses media. I have noticed that the types of media my family uses have been changing over the last few years.

My family loves baseball, and we have always watched the games on TV. But recently, I've been using social media to get news about it. I mainly use it to follow the pages for different teams and get up-to-the-minute updates on games and players from all around the country. I've been posting videos of exciting plays on my page so my friends and I can comment on them. Now, I feel confident when I talk about baseball with my family members.

My family stopped buying newspapers and magazines about a year ago to save paper and help the environment. I used to enjoy reading fashion magazines, but recently I've been following a few online fashion sites, so I don't really miss print magazines. My parents used to read the newspaper every day, but now they get the news online, and they love it. I don't read much online news though I do occasionally use it to research stuff for school.

Of course, we have a radio and television, too. Ever since I was a little kid, my family has gathered around the TV on Sunday afternoons to watch sports and game shows. It's a kind of family tradition, so I don't think we'll ever get rid of our TV. As for the radio, I think it's a bit outdated, but my grandfather still keeps it to remember the old days.

Tất nhiên, chúng tôi cũng có đài phát thanh và truyền hình. Kể từ khi tôi còn nhỏ, gia đình tôi đã quây quần bên TV vào những buổi chiều Chủ nhật để xem các chương trình thể thao và trò chơi. Đó là một loại truyền thống gia đình, vì vậy tôi không nghĩ chúng ta sẽ từ bỏ TV. Còn chiếc radio thì tôi nghĩ nó hơi lỗi thời nhưng ông nội tôi vẫn giữ nó để nhớ về ngày xưa.
