We use reported speech to report what someone said. We can use that to introduce reported speech, but we can omit that. When we change direct speech to reported speech: - we change verb tenses when the introductory verb (say, tell, ask, etc.) is in a past tense. Kim told me, “I’m interested in vertical farming” Kim told me (that) she was interested in vertical farming. - we change pronouns/possessive adjectives according to the context. He said, “Good time management skills help me work smarter.” He said (that) good time management skills helped him work smarter. - we change time words/phrases and other expressions according to the context.
