We live in Yorkshire, on a farm in the country. The farmhouse is quite an old building. It’s about 250 years old, I think that there aren’t many houses near us. There’s a pub in the village about three miles away, but we’re over twenty miles from the nearest town. That can be difficult for shopping, but we love it here. It’s very quiet, there’s no traffic, and the view is wonderful.

Our uncle’s family, however, don’t live in a house or a flat. They live on a houseboat. The boat looks small, but it’s quite big inside. Apart from the bathroom, it only has one room, so they have to do everything there – eat, cook, sleep, and watch TV.

Katy is very excited her class is having a party on Friday because school is closing for the summer holidays. So today she is going shopping with her mum and her friends Pamela and Jenny, they are going to buy something nice for the party. Katy and Jenny take their clothes and Pamela takes a blue skirt and a flowery skirt. They put on the clothes and look in the mirror, they are happy with their things and decide to buy some of them.

Jenny buys a pink dress and pink sandals. Pamela buys a long, skirt with small flowers on it, a white t- shirt and black sandals. Katy chooses pink shorts and a t-shirt with a pink heart on it. "You all look so pretty in your new clothes, I'm sure you will have such a great time at the party." They all go to the café to have some ice-cream and juice before they go home.

MY NEIGHBOURHOOD

I live in the suburbs of Da Nang City. There are many things I like about my neighbourhood.

It's great for outdoor activities because it has beautiful parks, sandy beaches and fine weather. There's almost everything I need here: shops, restaurants, and markets. The people here are friendlier, and the food is better than in other places.

However, there are two things I dislike about it: there are many modern buildings and offices; and the streets are busy and crowded.

CITY ON THE SEA

Imagine a five-star hotel with fantastic food and comfortable rooms. Imagine a square, shops, cinemas and theatres. Imagine all of these things on one very big ship: Oasis of the Seas.

More than 2,000 people work on Oasis of the Seas, and there are cabins for 6,360 passengers. That's a lot of people, and they eat a lot of food in the ship's twenty cafés and restaurants. There are 250 chefs!

It's the first ship with a park. It's called Central Park and it's got fifty real trees and 12,000 plants. If you like sports, there are also five swimming pools and there's an exciting sports area with a climbing wall. If you prefer reading, there's a library, but relax - there isn't a school on the ship!

MAPS

A map is a representation of a place. It's got a scale and a legend. A scale of 1:100,000 means that one centimetre on the map equals 100,000 centimetres, or one kilometre, in the place.

There are some symbols in the legend. An area with green trees is a forest, and a blue line is a river. A black dotted line is a path. There is a small black triangle and a number for a hill. The number - for example 112 - means that the hill is 112 metres high. Red lines are roads, and a railway is a black line with smaller lines on it. A black circle on a railway is a train station. A red area is a city or town. Next to the red area is the name of the city.
