*Lưu ý khi tường thuật nhớ đổi đại từ nhân xưng phù hợp với ngữ cảnh của câu.

1 Tense changes for reported questions are the same as for reported speech. The word order is the same as for statements. We don't use auxiliary verbs.

"Do you like reggae?"

→ She asked me if I liked reggae.

"What time does the concert start?"

→ She asked me what time the concert started.

2 We use if or whether to report yes/no questions.

"Was the bus late?" → He asked me if the bus had been late.

3 We don't include question tags in reported questions.

"Pat's coming, isn't he?" → He asked me if Pat was coming.

4 To report short answers, we use the auxiliary or modal from the short answer.

"Do you speak French? " "I don't."

→ She asked me if I spoke French and I said I didn't.

1 Các thay đổi về thì của câu hỏi tường thuật cũng giống như đối với câu tường thuật. Trật tự từ giống như đối với câu phát biểu. Chúng ta không sử dụng trợ động từ.

"Bạn có thích nhạc reggae không?"

→ Cô ấy hỏi tôi có thích reggae không.

"Buổi hòa nhạc bắt đầu lúc mấy giờ?"

2 Chúng ta sử dụng if hoặc whether để tường thuật câu hỏi có/không.

4 Để tường thuật câu trả lời ngắn, chúng ta sử dụng trợ động từ hoặc phương thức từ câu trả lời tắt.

“Bạn có nói được tiếng Pháp không?” “Tôi không.”

→ Cô ấy hỏi tôi có nói được tiếng Pháp không và tôi nói là không.)

• When we report questions, we use affirmative word order and verb forms after the question word.

‘How old are you?’ he asked me.

→ He asked me how old I was.

• To report a yes / no question (one that has no question word) we use whether or if.

‘Is it snowing? she asked.

→ She asked if it was snowing.

‘Do you live in Bristol? she asked me.

→ She asked me whether I lived in Bristol.

• We do not include question tags in reported questions.

‘You’re Mia’s friend, aren’t you?’ he asked.

→ He asked me if I was Mia’s friend.

• When we report short answer, we use the auxiliary or modal verb from the short answer.

Do you know the time? ‘I don’t.’

→ He asked me if I knew the time and I said I didn’t.
