On Top of the World
Hey Tom,
Guess where I am? I'm looking down at the crowded streets of London. I'm at the top of the Shard, the tallest skyscraper in the UK. I'm having a great time here in London. There are lots of things to see and do. I went to a Vietnamese restaurant last night and the food was delicious. This morning, I went shopping and bought some new clothes in the high street. I can't wait to see more of London. Where are you going this summer? Take care.
Will

Hi Will,
I'm with Mum and Dad in Blackpool on the seaside in the north of England. It isn't a crowded city - it's a town. There's a tower here and it looks like the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France. We went to Blackpool Zoo yesterday and we went shopping this morning. I bought you a T-shirt. This evening, we are going to a restaurant by the seaside to have some tasty seafood.
See you at school next week.
Tom
(Chào Will,

Most travellers know that learning a new language can make a holiday more fun.
It’s the international language of the skateboarding world, and a language that teens like Booker from New York know well. It has helped him to explore different places around the world and meet local people in different countries. Booker knows he’s lucky to have parents who have always travelled with him. He’s made videos of his trips since he was young. With the help of his mum, Booker has made videos that share an experience of skateboarding and surfing the the rest of the world.
Booker loves travelling and enjoys the feeling of adventure that goes with it. He doesn’t think you should travel with a lot of luggage, and says the most important thing is to feel comfortable wherever you are. His favourite place to sleep is in a hammock, even if he’s at home in New York! Of course, like the rest of us, there are some things Booker has to travel with. In his case, it’s a skateboard or surfboard, a video camera and a notebook.

An exchange student
We all love travelling to other countries, but how much do we really learn about the places we visit? We admire the view from our hotel room, we consult our guidebook and visit the popular tourist spots, then we return home with happy memories and 200 photos! But what's it like to live and study in another country? Gina Rossi decided to spend a year in the USA as an exchange student. She knew the language would be difficult at first and she knew she would miss her friends back home, but she wanted to experience the real America.
Gina stayed with a family in Mead, Colorado. 'I didn't want to go to a city,' she says. Mead is a fairly small town, so it was ideal for her. What was the first thing that she noticed in America?
'Everything was bigger,' she says. 'The houses, the schools, the shops.' Gina found school life difficult at first. The classes in most high schools are very big and you have to be quite independent. And of course, everything was in English. But the teachers were excellent and the students were all really friendly. 'They soon made me feel at home,' she says. Did anything surprise her? 'I was expecting the food to be terrible,' she says. 'But the family I stayed with enjoyed cooking, so in fact, it was really nice. In the summer, when the weather was hot, we had a lot of barbecues - I liked those.'
Gina now says that living in a place, rather than visiting as a tourist, is the only way to experience the culture of another country. And her advice for others? 'If you decide to go on an exchange, you should join in with everything, to make the most of the experience.' Gina even joined in as a cheerleader for a high school football game but only once!
