What's special about ...?

Young people around the world tell us what's special about their countries.

#1 New Zealand

New Zealand is one of the most beautiful countries. It's a land of islands and mountains, lakes and rivers. The highest mountains are on the South Island. That's where they filmed Lord of the Rings. Aoraki/Mount Cook is 3,724 metres high! Most people live on the North Island, especially in Auckland, the biggest city. The longest river, the Waikato, is on the North Island too. It's 425 kilometres long.

What's special about New Zealand? Well, it's very far away from other countries. It's in the South Pacific Ocean, about 10,000 kilometres west of South America. And it's 1,500 kilometres east of Australia across the Tasman Sea. Another special thing is that there are only 4.6 million people but there are about 30 million sheep!

Da Nang city lies in the Midlands of Viet Nam, from which Ha Noi capital in the north and Ho Chi Minh city in the south are almost equally spaced. It’s the fourth largest city in Vietnam.

Apart from some shopping highlights and historical sights, the main reason for most travellers staying here is its wonderful sceneries: My Khe Beach, Lang Co Beach, Hoi An and My Son. Da Nang city is also home to Ba Na Hills – a well-marketed brand of Da Nang tourism.

Da Nang is said to be ‘worth-living’ due to its refreshing and peaceful environment. Every evening, after work, you can easily catch the sight of families riding to the beach, leaving their motorbikes. They believe that their vehicles will still be there when they come back. There is also no beggar here and less traffic jams and pollution.

Another good thing is the food. If you love sea food, Da Nang will be the right choice. The food here is very fresh and the price is cheaper than that in Ho Chi Minh City.

Sapa is a small, mountain town in Lao Cai Province. It is located about 350 km northwest of Hanoi, close to the Chinese border. Here's where you'll find the Hoang Lien Son range of mountains, which includes Fan Si Pan—the country's highest peak.

This quiet Vietnamese town is home to different ethnic tribal groups. There are five main ethnic groups in Sapa: the Hmong, Dao, Tay, Giay and Xa Pho.

The most prominent attraction in the area around Sapa is Fan Si Pan, which is the highest mountain in Vietnam. It's only 19km from town. Fan Si Pan can be found in Hoang Lien National Park. The park covers a picturesque mountain landscape and several forests, and serves as the habitat for a diverse set of animals. Some species can only be found in northwest Vietnam and are highly endangered. Nature lovers will truly appreciate this park. Other attractions that are part of the Hoang Lien National Park include the Cat Cat Village and the Ta Phin Village and caves.

In Sapa town, there's a small museum and a modest cathedral. Like most rural areas in Vietnam, there are no shopping malls in Sapa. Instead, shopping takes place at markets where locals buy and sell goods.

Bus station and train station are also in the nearing, so I can easily commute to school. In Warsaw there are a lot of restaurants and café, so you'll never be hungry here. Living in a big city also has a few drawbacks. Everywhere is a lot of people, especially in the subway. There is a lot of traffic and the air is very polluted because of car fumes. There are also a lot of attractions for tourists, for example, built in the 19th century: Tower Bridge, Big Ben and the Madame Tussauds museum with wax figures of famous people.

I encourage you to visit London so that you can fall in love with this town, too!

Many people who work in London prefer to live outside it, and to go to their offices, factories or schools everyday by train, car or bus, even though this means they have to get up earlier in the morning and come home later in the evening.

One advantage of living outside London is that houses are cheaper. Even a small flat in London without a garden costs quite a lot to rent. With the same money, one can get a little house in the country with a garden of one’s own.

Then, in the country one can rest from the noise and hurry of the town. Although one has to get up earlier and spend more time in trains or buses, one can sleep better at night, and during weekends. In summer evenings one enjoys the fresh, clean air of the country. If one likes gardens, one can spend one’s free time digging, planting, watering and doing the hundred and one other jobs which are needed in a garden.

I recently traveled to two fantastic cities. Kuala Lumpur and Singapore have many differences but they are both great places to visit. So what do you do when you only have time to visit one? Here are some points to help you.

There is a lot to see and do in both cities. Kuala Lumpur is bigger and you might need to travel quite far to get to some attractions. Both have many shopping malls but Singapore has more amusement parks.

I think Singapore is more modern than Kuala Lumpur in some ways. The public transportation system is fast and comfortable. Malaysian buses and trains can be very crowded.

One of the best things about Asian countries is their food. Both cities have many tasty dishes, but in my opinion, food in Kuala Lumpur is cheaper. Now, you know the differences, which city is best for you?

Independence Palace

Independence Palace, or Reunification Palace, is a beautiful palace in Ho Chi Minh City. The palace has got five levels with over 100 rooms. There is one ground floor, three main floors and two mezzanines. There are tunnels, a war room, a card-playing room. a casino and a telecommunications centre. There is a heliport on the roof where helicopters can land. Outside there are beautiful gardens. It is open every day from 7:30 am, until 4:00 pm. The palace is close to Bến Thành Market. There, people can buy souvenirs and try amazing Vietnamese dishes.

Then, we got out our torches and went on a guided tour of the dark museum. It was quite scary! After that, we made T-Rex T-shirts, and a scientist gave us an informative talk. At midnight, it was time to sleep, but that wasn't easy because we were so excited! It was an unforgettable experience!
