2. You can find creative emoji T-shirts, posters, videos, stories and songs. Emojis are everywhere, but where are they from and why are they so popular?

3. The emoji inventor, Shigetaka Kurita, is from Japan, and 'emoji' in Japanese means picture (e) and letter (moji). Now over a thousand emojis with different skin colours show people and ideas from many cultures, not only Japan. They are becoming a truly international language.

4. Emojis and emoticons can show our feelings. When we aren’t speaking face-to-face, it’s important to see if a message is sad, silly, funny or happy. So emojis are useful, but they mostly add a bit of fun and colour to our lives. We really love them.

These are the results of our survey on using foreignlanguages. The results are from interviews with eight

The new phone box in London is 1green/red/black. It is the idea of two 2engineers/students/office workers.

An important new idea on the streets of London

A When tourists are walking in London, they see all the usual things: red buses, black taxis and red telephone boxes. Wait a minute! Is that a green telephone box?

B The answer is ‘yes’. But when you look through the window of this green phone box, you see it different. Nobody is dialling a number, having a conversation or hanging up the phone. In fact, there isn’t a phone inside – it’s a place to charge your mobile phone.

C This new idea is called a ‘Solarbox’. People can come here and charge their mobile phone batteries. The Solarbox uses solar power and it only needs three hours of sun every day.

D The phone box is the work of two university students. They were interested in the idea of the Solarbox for three reasons. Firstly, people don’t use the red phone boxes now because they have mobile phones. Secondly, modern phone batteries often need charging. And finally, workers in London nees a place to charge their phones when they away from their home or office.

E The Solarbox is popular with different people. An engineer, Bhavesh Morar, is using it at the moment. ‘A lot of these phone boxes, they’re not used anyway,’ he says. ‘Eveyone’s got a mobile, so it’s a really good idea!’

Read the following passage and choose the option (A,B,C or D) that answers each of the questions below.

One of the most obvious negative aspects of social networking is losing Face -to-face contact with other people. Teens are sitting around with their hands all day long, tapping  messages onto screens instead of communicating with real people . Many  teenagers feel more comfortable with virtual friends than with real ones. The majority think that it is easier to chat  on the Internet because they lack communication skills.

It is also true that parents often have no knowledge about what their kids do with their phones or computer. Crosby says that,"While kids are plugged in to social media , only about 40% of parents are involved themselves." And because parents don't know the full picture , thay also don't know  how to deal with a teenager's potential overuse of social media and might not even be aware that a problem exists. Therefore , social networking can be much more immediately engaging with the teenager 's life than parents are, and this fact makes virtual commmunication feels more "real" than face-to-face communication.
