Clean ENERGY

Burning oil, gas and coal makes 64% of the electricity we need. However, burning them releases dangerous chemicals which pollute the air. Also, they are non-renewable resources, so once we burn them all, there will be no more left to use. This means that we must find and use different types of energy which are renewable and don’t cause air (1) _______.

Water pollution is one of the biggest threats to the environment today. There are several sources of water pollution ranging from sewage and fertilizers to soil erosion. The impact of water pollution on wildlife and their natural habitat can be immense. There are also a number of things that the average person can do to help stop water pollution.

We should conserve the soil because soil conservation influences water pollution through erosion. As soil is eroded by water, it transfers sediment from the land to the body of water, which is polluted by the chemicals in the sediment. Phosphorus and industrial chemicals can be pulled into water through soil erosion. When phosphorus levels in water become too high, they can lead to algae blooms that can cause massive fish deaths and make water unsafe for human use. The best way to prevent soil erosion is to keep the banks of rivers well-covered with plants or trees. Planting trees can have a significantly positive impact on the reduction in soil erosion.

The oil used to lubricate engines in all types of machines needs to be changed regularly. When the oil is changed, it presents a number of environmental hazards if not disposed of properly. When a leaky engine releases this oil into the street, it runs to the sewer and makes its way into waterways.

Wherever you see a lot of human recreation, you will almost always see lots of evidence of human use. Wrappers, bottles and other trash are unfortunately a common site at many well-used beaches and rivers around the world. It should be fairly obvious that the trash from these places often ends up in waterways and can cause pollution. Plastics are an especially big issue when it comes to water contamination at beaches and waterways. Picking up litter wherever you find it is honestly the best, fastest way to do your part to stop this type of water pollution.

Organize cleaning parties with local people to make the reach larger. Get businesses involved as sponsors who will donate prizes to the person who collects the most trash if you're having a hard time finding people to sign up to help.

It is estimated that the consumption of plastic by humans is between 250 and 300 million tons a year. About 80% of the plastic in the oceans came from the land. Using alternatives to plastics or using "less disposable" plastics whenever possible can have a surprising impact on ocean pollution. The fact that plastic is cheap and useful for different purposes makes it obvious choices for many people.

Invasive species are the foreign plants or animals which come into a place and badly affect it. Invasive species can harm local living things and people's health.

The mixture of animal waste and water produces biogas. This goes into an engine that works on gas and produces electricity. So, had this idea really helped the zoo? Absolutely! Before they started using the waste, the zoo had found it difficult to control how much they spent on electricity. Now they can keep the animals warm and save money too!

Recycling plastic

Recycling plastic items is an important step towards reducing plastic waste. Initially, we can check our local recycling centres to find out which types of plastic are accepted in our area. The next step is to keep a separate bin for plastic items such as bottles and plates. It is vital to clean them before recycling to avoid contamination. Additionally, it is crucial that we can reuse these items to reduce waste. Next, families can also choose to use refillable water bottles each time we go out. Lastly, although single-use plastics are convenient to use, it is of utmost importance to avoid using them. By making small changes in our daily routines, we can contribute to limiting plastic waste and preserving our green planet.

Landforms

The surface of Earth has different landforms, which differ in size and shape. They can be mountains, valleys, deserts, dunes, or plateaus.

Mountains are formed as a result of earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and tectonic movements. Valleys, which can be V-shaped or U-shaped, are low-lying areas between mountains and hills. Deserts are dry areas which have very little rainfall and the daytime temperature is very high. Dunes are small hills made up of sand. They are created from the flow of the water. Plateaus are flat areas and highlands, which are separated from their surroundings.

Bodies of Water

Bodies of water include oceans, seas, lakes, rivers, streams, and glaciers. Water bodies form the largest habitats on Earth, providing huge living spaces for marine life.

There are five oceans and seven seas and these bodies of water are salty, but most rivers, streams, and lakes have fresh water.

Glaciers are the frozen bodies of water, which cover almost 10% of Earth’s land area, and are sources of fresh water on Earth.

Bodies of water on Earth also provide sources of water, food, medicines, and energy to humans. They help maintain biodiversity and play an important role in transportation.

There are three major types of forests in the world, which are tropical forests, temperate forests, and boreal forests.

Tropical forests or rainforests are those that grow around the equator, spreading across the equator in Africa, Southeast Asia, and South America. They are home to orchids, vines, ferns and animals, such as monkeys, bats, jaguars and various types of insects, totaling hundreds of species of birds and butterflies and around a thousand plant species. Rainforests help regulate climate and provide us with everyday products and medicines.

Temperate forests can be found in North America, Europe, and Northeastern Asia. The temperatures here range from -30 to 30 degrees Celsius. They are home to oak and maple trees and animals like foxes, lions, eagles, and black bears. The areas have four different seasons with a very obvious winter. The leaves of trees in temperate forests change colour with seasonal change and fall during the winter.

Boreal forests are also called taiga. They can be found in Canada, Russia, and northern Japan. There are only two seasons in these areas, which are the very long, cold and dry winter, and the short, moist, and mild summer. The temperature is extremely low, between -50 to 30 degrees Celsius. Boreal forests are home to evergreen trees and various animals including wolves, foxes, hares, bears, and some others.
