Clean and Tidy Town

We should do our best to keep our town clean and tidy. In this way, we not only make our town a healthy place but also protect the environment. We can help in many ways to make our town a better place to live.

Firstly, we must never drop litter on the ground and we should recycle as much as possible. We should put recycling bin throughout the town and teach children to use them. It is also very important to have a recycling centre in the town where people can recycle their paper, bottles and cans. Secondly, it is important to use eco-friendly means of transport, which creates less noise and air pollution. We should walk, cycle and use public transport as much as possible instead of driving cars and riding motorbikes. Thirdly, it is nice to plant trees and start community gardens. If we do that, the town will look more beautiful and the air will be cleaner. Community gardens also provide fresh food, which helps the town residents be healthier.

These changes may seem small, but keep in mind that a lot of small actions add up to make a big difference. If everyone in a community works together, we can change things for the better.

Why start a conversation?
We are social creatures. Research shows that even short conversations with people around us can make us feel happier and more connected. Talking to someone you don’t know well may seem scary at first, but it can lead to new friendships and improve your confidence.

When chatting with a stranger, try to keep good eye contact and think of a few simple topics before you start talking. You don’t need to be funny or clever—just be kind and interested. A good conversation is not about being perfect; it’s about connecting with others.

Three tips to get started:
• Ask questions – Don’t worry if your questions are simple. Easy questions like “How was your day?” can still lead to a nice chat.
• Don’t skip small talk – Talking about the weather or your surroundings can help you find things in common. Just avoid topics that might cause disagreement, such as politics or personal beliefs.
• Know when and how to exit – Be mindful of your conversation partner’s body language and responses – if you’re doing all the work to maintain the chit chat, it might be a sign they’re not interested.

Next up:
Conversation is a skill. Like any, it takes practice. Try saying hello or making a small comment when you’re in line at a coffee shop or supermarket. These little moments are great chances to improve your social confidence.
