What do you like about your town?

Our history teacher assigned us a project. We have to write about a traditional type of Vietnamese entertainment. Because I saw the water puppet show in Hà Nội two years ago, I’ve decided to write about them. I was surprised to learn that water puppetry is pretty old. It started around the 11th century. Most of the stories are about daily life in rural areas or historical legends. And the puppets are made of wood, and they are painted. They are also quite heavy. The performers conduct the show in about a meter of water. Because originally they were performed in flooded fields or ponds near the village, performers used large bamboo rods to support the puppets. Today, the puppeteers stay hidden behind a screen, but the puppets look like they’re moving. I was surprised to learn that the audience cannot see the strings that move the puppets because they are actually hidden in the water.

Hầu hết các câu chuyện đều kể về cuộc sống đời thường ở nông thôn hoặc các truyền thuyết lịch sử. Và những con rối được làm bằng gỗ và được sơn màu. Chúng cũng khá nặng. Những người biểu diễn tiến hành buổi biểu diễn trong khoảng một mét nước. Vì ban đầu chúng được biểu diễn ở những cánh đồng ngập nước hoặc ao hồ gần làng nên người biểu diễn dùng những thanh tre lớn để đỡ các con rối. Ngày nay, những người múa rối ẩn mình sau một tấm bình phong, nhưng những con rối trông như đang di chuyển. Tôi rất ngạc nhiên khi biết rằng khán giả không thể nhìn thấy sợi dây di chuyển những con rối vì chúng thực sự bị ẩn trong nước.

How can we make our area a better place for young people aged 11-18?
That's easy! At the weekend, there isn't a lot to do because there's a lack of leisure facilities. Teenagers go skateboarding on the streets at the moment, so I think our town needs a (1) _____. As a cyclist, I think there's one answer and that's to reduce the number of cars!
