Cấu trúc câu tường thuật (câu gián tiếp) Yes/No:
S1 + asked / wanted to know (+ S2) + if / whether + S + V(lùi 1 thì so với câu trực tiếp).

1. Trong câu gián tiếp Yes/No ta dùng “if/whether + clause” => chọn “if I knew”.
Minh asked me if I knew much about the Amazon Rainforest.
(Minh hỏi tôi có biết nhiều về Rừng nhiệt đới Amazon không.)
2. Trong câu gián tiếp Yes/No ta lùi thì ở mệnh đề if => chọn “he was living”.
I asked Frankie if he was living near the Grand Canyon.
(Tôi hỏi Frankie liệu anh ấy có sống gần Grand Canyon không.)
3. Trong câu gián tiếp Yes/No ta dùng “ask” hoặc “want to know” => chọn “wanted to know”.
Trang wanted to know whether Tom wanted to visit Mount Fansipan.
(Trang muốn biết Tom có muốn đi thăm đỉnh Phan-xi-păng không.)
4. Trong câu gián tiếp Yes/No ta dùng “ask” hoặc “want to know” => chọn “asked”.
My mum asked me whether I was studying or playing then.
(Mẹ hỏi lúc đó tôi đang học hay đang chơi.)
5. Trong câu gián tiếp Yes/No ta dùng “if/whether + clause” => chọn “whether he wanted”.
The teacher asked Liam whether he wanted to visit Son Doong Cave.
(Giáo viên hỏi Liam có muốn đến thăm hang Sơn Đoòng không.)
