Conditional sentences type 3 describe a situation in the past that cannot be changed because it has already happened. These sentences are often used to talk about regrets or to speculate about what might have happened if things had been different.

(Câu điều kiện loại 3 diễn tả một tình huống trong quá khứ không thể thay đổi được vì nó đã xảy ra rồi. Những câu này thường được sử dụng để nói về sự hối tiếc hoặc để suy đoán về những gì có thể xảy ra nếu mọi việc khác đi.)

• If + S + V past perfect tense, S + would have + V past participle.

(Nếu + S + V thì quá khứ hoàn thành thì S + sẽ có + V quá khứ phân từ.)

If my friends hadn't started using Facebook, I would not have used it.

(Nếu bạn bè của tôi không bắt đầu sử dụng Facebook thì tôi đã không sử dụng nó.)

= Unless my friends had started using Facebook, I would not have used it.

Unless is used to mean 'if not'.
